1. Determine your type of fireplace.

There are many types of fireplaces, such as masonry, factory-built/prefabricated, direct vent, vent free, and electric.

Masonry fireplaces are built with brick or stone and usually have a chimney made of the same brick or stone. Factory-built/prefabricated fireplaces usually consist of metal boxes, and the chimney is usually faced with the same material as your house. Such fireplaces, which are also called “Zero Clearance” or “ZC” fireplaces, require an air exchange between the firebox and combustible materials used around fireplace’s enclosure. ZC doors are designed to allow the required airflow that keeps your prefabricated fireplace working correctly. Direct vent fireplaces have sealed ceramic glass in the front and are vented directly through the wall.

2. Choose the style and model of your doors.

Be sure that the doors’ style and model complements your fireplace well. Manufactured doors come in both steel and aluminum. Some feature laser-cut steel doors for customers that want a more “traditional” or “old-fashioned” style. Some are made from heavy-gauge aluminum and offer sleek and minimal frame designs, perfect for today’s contemporary style.

As far as old-fashioned door models go, you could choose from the classic style with its rugged steel construction and popular design options like arch doors and window panes. Choose the exclusive “Cutback” option to get a minimal frame with maximum style and glass.

4. Choose your finish.

Fireplace doors are available in over 25 powder-coat finishes that have been popular with thousands of customers. The popular models are available in all colors of powder-coat finishes and add more options like Oil-Rubbed Bronze, Antique Copper, and our exclusive “Hand-Crafted” finishes. Other doors are available in 28 powder-coat finishes and 3 anodized finishes like Satin Nickel and Satin Brass.
